This commission forms the centrepiece of the LSO Discovery Panufnik Composing Project with generous support from the Helen Hamlyn Trust.

To celebrate its 100th birthday, the London Symphony Orchestra commissioned a series of concertos to feature all its principal players. Watkins’ London Concerto has three soloists: the violin forceful, with much double-stopping and brilliant runs; the bassoon lyrical and declamatory over a wide range; the harp decorative in scale and arpeggio patterns but aggressive in chords.
